Victorian Day at Holdenby House
This term in Key Stage One our topic has been the Victorians. The children have really enjoyed this topic culminating in an enriching trip to Holdenby House. The children and staff all dressed as Victorian servants and took part in a variety of cleaning and making activities under the watchful eye of Mrs Bumbridge and her staff. The children experienced making bread, doing the washing, tidying Her Ladyship’s chamber (including emptying the chamber pot!) and making Christmas decorations.
The day ended with a performance of songs in front of Her Ladyship.
It was a wonderful day and gave the children a good insight into what life was like for a poor Victorian child. They all agreed they would rather be a child in 2019!
